What We Do
The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) was established to investigate allegations of fraud, waste, mismanagement, corruption, and abuse of resources that harms the public interest. We receive and impartially evaluate complaints and inquiries, and can initiate investigations and other reviews based on such submissions and on our own initiative. In order to conduct these investigations, the OIG is entitled to access to state records that the Inspector General considers necessary, and it can issue subpoenas requiring the attendance and testimony of witnesses and the production of evidence. We will keep complainants informed to the greatest extent possible and, at the conclusion of our work, we will report transparently on the results and any recommendations made as a result. We then will follow up on the actions taken in response to such recommendations. In addition to our reports on specific investigations and reviews, we are required by statute to issue a detailed annual report summarizing our work no later than March 1 of each year, which, as required by law, will be published on the OIG website and submitted to the Governor, Attorney General, and members of the General Assembly, among others.
