What Happens to a Complaint?

When you file a report with the OIG, we will let you know we’ve received it. The OIG will then review your submission and, if you have identified yourself, we may reach out to you for additional information. If you file anonymously, we will not be able to let you know we received it.

After the OIG reviews your complaint, we may take any of the following actions:

  • Open an investigation by the OIG;
  • If the allegation involves the alleged commission of a crime, report the matter to the Delaware Department of Justice or other appropriate law enforcement agency;
  • Refer the matter to another oversight agency for the purposes of efficiency, coordination, and avoiding duplication of work;
  • Refer the matter to the affected state agency or another agency for resolution, but we will not do this without your consent.

If the OIG does not investigate a complaint, we will notify you of that decision and the reason for it.

If the OIG does investigate your complaint, we will issue a public report of decision, including recommendations, on the merits of the complaint.  We will communicate our decision to you, the state agency investigated, and as appropriate , the employee or contractor investigated. The decision will be posted on the OIG website.
